On August 28, 2010, history was made. The Arkenstone opened their new Mineral Gallery in Dallas, Texas. This Gallery was created with the idea that great mineral specimens should be displayed to the public as great works of art are displayed - with the care, reverence and lighting they deserve.

Over 200 people from around the world attending this event that culminated with a Texas-style BBQ dinner and two special presentations.

Intel Fellow Gene Meieran talked about the now-legendary American Mineral Treasures display from the 2008 Tucson show and his 60-years of collecting. Then, Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt took the stage and shared stories and photos of his experience as the first geologist to walk on the moon.

The event was such a success that it became known as the first Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium with follow up symposiums planned every year.
